They sell fastener kits for most major components. (Even for the entire car.) I like to buy these little kits. Then not only do I get exactly what I need for a parts replacement project I also get to keep the originals for spares or whatever.

That said when I get the chance I will buy a bag or box of nuts, washers, lockwashers, etc that seem useful. Like nylock 3/8 coarse thread nuts and such. More so these days. I wanted some simple nuts and bolts to bolt some wood down as the floor of a small trailer. I had a few and bolted two boards down. From there I was able to calculate how many more I need to buy. Off to Lowe's and Home Depot for them. Nope. Didn't take long to figure out that even buying the boxed quantity version of the fasteners I was looking at over $100. Absurd. I found them online so cheap I bought extra AND some lockwashers. Just over $20, shipped. Because someone will ask, it's a carpentry supply place but they had what I was after and more bolts besides. McFeely's Screws & Fasteners all in one place.
