I am running 16 by 8 front tires, and will not be useing power assist. Will the 16:1 ratio box be to hard to turn during parking ect?

The real question should be: How big are your arms? or Did you want to build up your upper arm strength? The steering wheel will be hard to turn at slow speeds but should not be unbearable unless your have a big block. The I'd advise changing to the manual ratio 19:1.

I have a 66 with sticky 225's on the front. It has manual steering with a 16:1 box. I'm skinny and I don't think it's hard...

Has a quicker steering response which is nice.

I have 225-60-14s on the front of my SB '67 with a 16:1 box. Turning the wheel when completely stopped is a bit tough, but not unbearable. If you're moving, even slowly, it's not a problem. You get used to it. I also enjoy the tightness of the ratio.

My brother has 225-60-15s on the front of his BB '69 with a 16:1 box. Same situation as mine. As long as you're moving you'll be OK. Only when you are stopped while turning is more effort required.

Both vehicles were originally equipped with power steering. We converted them and kept the 16:1 boxes.

Besides what the others have said, don't go with a SMALL custom steering wheel, keep it the same size as the stocker along with it having thick grip. This will help out too.

16:1 isn't hard. And take it from me, yoiu sure don't want the 19:1 steering. You've darn near have to turn the wheel twice just to change lanes. I let a brother in law drive my 19:1 car once and when he pulled out into traffic he made a long slow S across the lane before he finally got centered. Just because things were happening so slow for him. They also really put the panic intoi panic manuevers.

Having said that physics dictate a bigger wheel is easier to turn, I have a 14" leather LeCarra. I still find it fairly easy to turn when moving.
