I wonder if I can cleanly bolt on stock '66 289 heads onto a '70 302.
I have put newer heads on an older engine before, but never the other way around.
I found a nice set of complete 289 heads much cheaper than it would cost to rework mine.

Thanks

the Tom Monroe book "how to rebuild your Small Block Ford" has a section with a chart on cylinder head cc's and is otherwise a great book to have.
A free PDF is also available if your google fu is good. I cant post link sorry copyright issue

Thanks - I have the book but I just moved and can't find it. Just wanted to be sure.
I haven't rebuilt a 289 in almost 15 years so I have to find that book and knock the dust off of it.

I think I could bolt together a 289 / 302 from buckets to boo-yah in my sleep. Those little 289s and the non-Thermactor heads are still cheap fun after 50 years! A little porting here...a little cam there...maybe an F4B or a newer intake and a 4100...look out !
