The guy whose engine I am working on wants to drop it in a 66 coupe that is equipped with the original C4 trans. The engine is a 72 302. Are there any compatibility issues? Should I use the block plate and flex plate off the 66 C4 or install those which were provided with the engine? My Ford Parts Interchange book is packed away still and I have no clue which of the multitude of boxes contains it.

Thanks for the help.

Oh, the engine is looking great! It's all together again, freshly painted, finned valve covers, alumn intake, etc. Other than the bad bearings, worn out timing chain, and partially solidified gunk in the crank, the engine was in pretty good shape. The various tolerances (cam shaft end play, crankshaft end play, crankshaft journal dimensions, oil pump tolerances) were all within factory spec. I'll take photos before it leaves the shop.

ok, thanks. That's reassuring. I'd hate to tell the guy, "uh, the engine is fine, but by the way, you need to get a new trans."
