Windshield and Rear glass trim removal?

1321 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  qwk66
So i am going to replace my Windshield and rear glass Gasket on a 1965 mustang Fastback.

I have seen all the videos and read the tips so i already have my plans laid out for the actual undertaking of this project. What i am curious about is the tool to remove the trim without damaging it.

I really dont want to buy this tool, as it would only be used once and then....

Any reccomendations other than "Suck it up".

nope. as you said...'suck it up' and buy the correct tool. it is not very costly and use of the incorrect tools will cause damage.
i second that. the right tool is the best.
so the right tool is a trim removal tool, correct? or is it something else?
you can make one out of a putty knife , if you're cheap or can't find the one you bought (like me) here's what it looks like

oh i found mine it was buried under some other tools
Most definitely get a good quality tool to do it right.
Take your time and be patient (people get frustrated and bend the trim),
getting one end started is usually the challenge, after that it's not too bad.
Do the winshield first to get the hang of it, the back trim is hard to find and
expensive where the front is much more common so better to mess up on the front.
where do you purchase the correct tool?
Well i sure wish i would have know i could've got the tool at harbor freight. I ordered the 1 tool for $15 online with shipping. At least i got the right tool and will be saving my trim and not a few bucks on the tool.
Hey Greanie. Let us know how the windshield install turns out. I am getting ready to install a new front in a couple weeks.
