Hey guys.. i am wondering how i can tell if my 66 has an 8 or 9 inch rearend. Do I have to take out the axle and measure it or is there a way to know it from just measuring the housing? Thanks... i am assuming that more 8 inch rear ends were made and mine was originally a 289 2barrel 3spd. so i would guess its 8. Am i right? thanks guys

More than likely your's is an 8". On a 9" you CAN'T get to the lower left bolt on the pumpkin with a socket.

Unless your's has been swapped, it's an 8", as only K codes got the 9" in '65/'66.

There's several ways to tell. Many of the 9" rears have the "hump" on the back (no 8" rears do, but some 9" rears don't either). You cannot get a socket on the 2 lowest carrier bolts on a 9", and you can on an 8". The 8" is more oblong, the 9" is more round.
