Every now and then when I go to start my car ,turn the key and nothing happens, dash lights come on ,oil etc. but not even a click at the solenoid. If I go out and jump it with a screwdriver it will start. I've changed the ignition switch and checked the wires. Any suggestions?

hmm, have you tried a new Solenoid?

Always check cheapest things first. Check battery cable connections/cleanliness. Could be bad solenoid. If shorting the solenoid cranks the starter, most likely is not starter. Could also be loose/broken wiring on ignition swx. Check all for good continuity, +12v when applied.
Good luck.

Also if it's an AT, check the neutral/park switch.

Almost definitely the solenoid. My Mustang did the exact same thing; as did my old beater Ford work truck. I put in the new solenoid; works like a champ.

I'm with 68GT390FB4sp, mine is doing the same thing, and my transmission guy told me that its probably the Neutral safety switch. You can get one of these from California Mustang for like $29, if you're in the area... (PN: 7A247 - A, B, or C depending on trans...) BTW, I haven't tested this yet... have to get the engine back in the car first... Hope you get it running again! :)
