Whats the difference besides the shape of the shelby rearview mirrors on a 66. . . they seem to be mounted differently then the stockers. any advice is helpful

All I can say is they're useless!

At least for me as the vent window post is directly in the line of site (long legs).

I'm sorry ... compared to what?

If its regular production mirrors. They were made by different companies, mounted in similar ways, made of different material (except for the glass of course)

Please remember that Mustangs were shipped with out the standard mirrors installed , too much breakage and vandals Just like hubcaps since they were shipped in open carriers not like today
