OK! now in the past i have seen question like what does 2x2 mean and the usual answer everyone gives is 2 people in front and 2 people in back! Now yesterday i saw a tiny geo tracker go by and it said 4x4 on it (i actually know what that means though)! I was just sitting there thinking about what everyone responsed to that 2x2 question with 2 in front and 2 in back and i know for sure that geo tracker cant fit 4 in front and 4 in back, which simple logic would say if that 2x2 things was right! so someone should help clear this mess up or my sis is going to think that you can put 8 people total in the geo tracker!!!

Actually it is 2+2, not 2x2.

IIRC the idea was that it was like a 2 seater sport car with the backseat folded down with the trapdoor covering it, but had "+2" capability with the seat up.

Also, 2x2 wouldn't even be correct for a two wheel drive vehicle, unless you're talking about a bike or something. A two wheel drive car, truck, van, SUV, whatever, is considered a 4x2 (4 wheels - 2 driven).

I've wondered whether an open differential would most accurately described as a 4X1?

Yeah, really... /forums/images/icons/smile.gif In that case, most stock 4x4's would be 4x2's! An open will still get both of them spinning eventually though, just not instantaneous like a posi, a locker, or a spool.

I remember when mustangs first came out, when the fastback became available, it was reffered to in ads as a 2+2

92 olds supercharged touring sedan (big mama's)
ranger 4x4-66 mustang coupe
