background info: 1970 Mustang Sportsroof/Fastback. 302-2V

need some help... when i first got my stang over 4 years ago, I didnt pay much attention to tags, stickers etc... besides they were painted over also. I have since then tried to clean and or salvage the existing door tag/sticker and to my dismay it was not salvagable.

is that sticker on the door the main ID tag for the entire car ? detailing original color, location - all of that good stuff ??

are they other stickers or tags or codes stamped into various pieces ANY where else on the car ? I would really like to know a bit more about my car by checking some of the # stuff out - seems like it would be a lot of fun.

any help on locations would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks everyone and have a good weekend!

The VIN is also stamped on the fender aprons, but I'm assuming that you're talking about the other codes that were on the door sticker. Some info will be on the buck tag if it's still attached, but they're somewhat cryptic and don't tell the full story. You can get the '999' report from Ford for free or get the Marti report as well as the original invoice from Kevin Marti for a reasonable fee. These might be a little more thorough than the 999 report.

Like Pop428 said, the legal VIN is the one affixed to the dash on the driver's side. If the car wasn't a San Jose built car, it may have a buck tag on the shock tower (don't know if they were still doing buck tags in '70, but San Jose never did buck tags).

Marti Auto Works owns the Ford Database for the '67-'73 Mustangs. For a small fee, he can give you a report of everything the car came with. For another fee, he can reproduce your door warranty tag with the correct information, as well.

yea - the VIN tag is still on the dash. I dont remember seing any tags on the shock towers either... would it be interior to the engine bay or on the exterior wheel side of the tower ?

oh BTW - what is/was that large square sticker that is on the drivers side interior shock tower facing the front of the car? is that the "buck" tag that you were refering to ? or was it a vacuum schematic or something like that...?

Oh yes they did. I have one for a '70 Grande, 0R04H143938. The tag was found on the front of the radiator support, passenger side. I know that they didn't do them all the time, but they were used on some '70s.
