Buying this particular Mustang...

I bought a Lincoln Versailles rear end for my '65 fb and after completely overhauling and narrowing it, installed it and found out it was still too wide. All new gears, brakes, guts, etc. I got frustrated- sold it for $800 in 1 hour on CL, and bought a spanking new Currie complete axle for $3k. After installing and plumbing it, I bolted my new Coy's wheels back on... and found out the axle is 1" wider than stock. I could almost kill the Currie rep as he GAURANTEED me it was a direct fit application!! My second set of custom built wheels will be here in 6-8 weeks... (another $2k!) I'd trade you for your broken windshield in a heartbeat!!!!!!!

Our '67 vert!
Mind you we bought this as the sun was setting, knew nothing about Mustangs at the time, and my wife got all emotional about it since her mom had one. As time has passed, the expenditures have piled up and continue to do so. Now the motor is pretty much in need of a rebuild (1qt per 100 miles), the power top is in the state of malfunction (motor, cylinders or both), the body could use a de-bondo-izing (this is why you look under Mustangs in solid daylight) and a repaint. $12k purchase price + rear springs, shocks, water pump, new rebuilt cylinder head, new exhaust, new power top lines, and much more to come, I'm sure!

Still nothing like owning a classic convertible though!

Buying a coupe instead of a fastback. Don't get me wrong I love the little coupe but now I want a fastback and cant bring myself to sell the coupe (plus my kids would kill me) so I guess we will have two 65's one day.

I still don't know why I forgot to close the door :-(. Luckily the door could be saved....

Putting the 351, cable clutch and power brakes in. Then there was the time that I destroyed an original Shelby GT350 dash tach ...

Not making sure the backspace on the rear wheels was correct before purchasing. Now American Racing doesn't even make them in 18x10 anymore, only 18x9.5. My tires would be too big for the wheels if I got a smaller wheel (I think).

Most expensive mistake was letting mustang "experts" replace sheetmetal on my car before I knew what quality work was. As a result, I'll be re-doing work that cost me a few thousand dollars.

Not on my mustang, but i burned up a 700r OD trans in my c10 because i didn't adjust the tv cable right... on the new one I even checked the new trans shift pressures with a gauge... over 20k and 7 years later this one is still good.

Thinking that people would actually stop at a red light.

I did something like this.

Just to let everyone know: On a C4 tranny the shifter holds the transmission in Park, so if you start the car with the shift linkage dis-connected... the transmission could, AND probably WILL drop into reverse. Of course I had the door open as the car went flying backwards out of the garage with me sitting sideways in the seat and my feet hanging out of the open door (*idiot*). Luckly I got the ignition turned off shortly after the door caught the wall and before I got hurt.

Buying 5 cars from my brother then buying 3 mustangs within last year. ROFLMFAO. ALready had 5 cars. I am a hoarder hehehe

66candy, you saved that door? I am seriously impressed

Oh boy what a thread

Thinking I could just remove stock Inake bolts on a 67 and swap them out for shiny stainless ones. Huge leaking occurred. Led to a very expensive top end replacement and head rebuild.

Buying a 67 vert years ago from a dealer at Carlisle. Looked a minter but a total mechanical and structural disaster. I should have given him 15.500 and went away with no car. I would have saved money

Putting a 671 Blower on a 351 in my 68 coupe. Took an amazing car and made it an explosion prone (3 times) useless hunk

Selling my 68KR for 38k. A year later it was 100k more to get into the club
