I think it's a safe bet that the new car is going to be a big hit,and I haven't purchased a new vehicle since 1990.So...I have an '88 5.0 with 19,000 miles, garage kept since new.I was never really satisfied with the fox mustang, irregardless of it's cult status. It will likely be replaced with an '05.In recent years the value of clean, unmodified 5.0's have been inching upward.Should I sell it soon or wait? Will the market value go down when the '05's arrive or it will it continue to climb?Just looking for your thoughts/opinions...

I was just about to post regarding the same.
I just came from the Detroit auto show and saw the new Mustang. Ford did a nice job and it seemed to be the hit of the show.

I couldn't help wonder if this will affect the values of all older mustangs. i have a 67 fastback and the resemblence is just too obvious. I couldn't help but wonder if those interested in classic mustangs would now rather spend their money on a brand new, novel looking, dependable car rather than a classic.

Because of this my feeling of the 05 Mustang remains bitter sweet.

The new 2005 fliers are in at dealers now.You can pick them up but the dealers do not know anything about the cars, as to prices and so on yet.Ford is really getting ahead of the game putting the fliers out now.Lots of attention for sure. I am in a small town, about 10,000 with the outside farming area and the fliers were gone in a couple of days.
My opinion was that I "thought" the cars were also coming out early but that apparently is not correct, just the ads are.
Horsepower is down to 300, toque 315 for the V8 GT. This is down a lot from the first prototypes, most likely due to insurance again. If they were to run up to the 340-400 I am sure the insurance companies would nail the owners with a pile more than now.My insurance on the GT is close to $3000 now and I have never had a major accident with any of my cars. Not even a fenderbender in 42 years of driving. In the pics it appears the C lines on the sides are gone, singel trim line there now and no hood scoop.I liked those on the cars.
I am planning on a new GT convert this year as well but that will depend on 2 things. What they will give me for my summer driven only GT convert and how much the new ones are up.I most likely will have close to 35,000 km on mine by then or about 22,000 miles. All highway and no salt weather at all.

Lee,
I too am getting the '05 bug.... In my case, it would be the 2000 SVT Contour (24K mi) that gets traded. I've had the 85 GT since new and will keep it preserved as much as possible (it still has its factory tires). If you can swing it, you may want to hold onto that 88 GT, especially given the low milage and original condition. IMO, the '05 will be a smash and promote interest in Mustangs of all years. I think it will ultimately elevate the value of all Mustangs by possibly being the best one yet.

To answer your original question, I don't think a new bodystyle will affect a Fox body. If anything, it adds new Mustang enthusiasts, who may only be able to afford the Fox models, slightly increasing their value.

My hope is that everyone with an 03 Cobra will run to get an 05, and I can come swooping down and snag theirs at a deal. ::

I thought I was the only one with these kinda thoughts... Let some other idiot pay $40k for the new one. I'll buy the '05 in '07 and save $15k
