This is somewhat related to the other thread, but I didn't want to hijack the thread.

Did all 1966 Mustangs come standard with the emergency flasher switch in the glove box, or did that start at some point in the middle of the model year?

I have a 1966, San Jose built, 6 cylinder coupe with a planned build date in January 1966. My dad bought it used in 1969. Best we can tell, it never had a switch installed in the glove box. It did have what appeared to be a previous owner installed switch box installed under the dash, in the middle (more or less directly down from the radio).

Were emergency flashers standard equipment in 1966 or were they an option that almost everyone always chose? Our car originally came with absolutely no options selected (except for the required California smog pump).

As far as I have read all 66's came with the emergency flasher switch as standard. My 66 is an early Dec 65 build and had the flasher switch mounted inside the glove compartment on the top with factory rivets. The early 66 (before 3/1/66) had the switch "hard wired" into the loom, where as the later model 66's had a "plug in" style switch which had male connectors and the loom had female ones. The 64 1/2 to 65's did not have the switch. As for the positioning of yours, It was definitely not done at the factory as you said. This would not be the chosen spot as it would interfere with A/C or long console installations. I have seen some mounted in different spots under the dash on the passenger side and even one on the drivers side which would have required extending the wires but have not seen enough to confirm or deny the correct placing. Sorry, but hope that the other info helped.

Dan.
