Good morning all,

My 67 has turn signals that blink very slowly. The 4-way flashers blink at a much more normal speed. Is there an obvious culprit? My car had the hood mounted turn signals, but the lamp holders and lamps are missing at the minute.

Thanks!

IMMIC there are two set of flasher cans on your car, one for the emergency flashers and one for the turn signals. Probably the flasher can that controls the turn signal needs to be replaced.

Cool, thank you :smile2:

IIRC, of the two "flasher cans" behind instrument cluster, t/s flasher was regular duty, but the hazard flasher was heavy duty. But you can use heavy duty for both.

Thanks for the information, I'll temporarily put the hazard flasher on the turn signals to see whether that speeds them up before ordering any parts :smile2:

Thanks, I'll check the ground strap also:smile2:

If you have the same type of thermal flasher on the turn and the hazards, then the hazards could blink twice as fast.

The stock thermal flasher use a bimetallic metal strip to break the contact. When the metal strip heats up, the contact opens. Once it has cooled down, it closes.

Now your turn signals operate 2 bulbs at the same time, front and rear. Each bulb draws about 2 amps, so the load for the turn signal is about 4 amps.

The hazards run all 4 bulbs, thus the load will be 8 amps. With twice the current, the bimetallic strip will heat up much faster and the contact will open faster.

On my 67 the turn and hazards flasher modules were different types, however they have the same pinout and can interchanged.

Since you still have 1157s you can replace both flasher with an LL552. These electronic flashers will blink at the same rate with 2 bulbs or 4.

Any auto parts store will have them.

One thing they did not mention is that the ts flasher originally had a thing on the end of it so it would mount to the back of the cluster--none of the flashers available now have that so you should find a way to hold the flasher so it does not hang by the wiring.
