OK, it's tough being dumb, but I'll swallow my pride and ask. I removed the upper insert of my floor console - the piece that has the cut-out for the manual transmission shifter - in order to remove the faceplate of the radio. I have had trouble placing this part back onto the lower part of the console. The rear is secured by two screws. The front is in place but not secured at all. I have shown the gap in an attached photo. When looking at the underside of the upper piece of the console, there are two metal spring clips on either side. There is nothing that I can find that they snap/clip onto. There is square piece of metal attached to the lower part of the console - but I can see no purpose that it serves. Does anyone have any ideas how the upper part of the console should secure tightly to the lower part? I wonder if I have a replacement part installed by someone during the rebuild (years ago) that is for another console. Neither the springs on the upper console nor the piece of metal attached to the lower console serve any purpose...at least that I can see. Thanks to anyone that can offer advice.
