Hi All,

I purchased a set of Daniel Carpenter gaskets for my rear side markers and have a question regarding the larger seal. The location of the smaller seal is straight forward, which goes between the red lens and chrome trim/housing. As for the larger seal, is it suppose to be installed on the exterior or interior?

I installed the seal on the exterior (placed between the chrome trim and quarter panel) and it looks funky. Is this the correct? The seal is made from a foam material and am concerned it will deteriorate over time.

If I install the seal inside the quarter panel, it does not seal the light and my problem persist with water getting into my quarter panels.

I searched online and even called Daniel Carpenter and was not able to get an answer. I looked through google photos of other cars and cannot see a gaskets around the light trims.

I attached pictures for reference. Any help is appreciated.

Nope. That seal goes on the inside of the trunk. It seals out exhaust fumes as well as water.
Thanks Klutch for your response.

If I put the seal inside it does not seal the lights opening/cutout on the quarter panel (pic attached). Water still gets inside the quarter panel. Do you know if there is another gasket that goes on the exterior to seal the light trim?

Another interesting note is that CJponyparts says "Prevents lights from rubbing on fender". LINK HERE
"Features and Benefits:

  • Direct-Fitment
  • Pristine Appearance
- Prevents Lights From Rubbing on Fender "

Thanks for your input.

I also have a '70 Mach 1. I'm recalling a much slimmer gasket which fit between the chrome bezel and the outside of the quarter panel. Pretty sure it was this:

The gasket you linked is actually the one I am referring to and have. It is manufactured by Daniel Carpenter.

Would you happen to have a photo of your rear side marker installed?
