As the title says I have a 1965 2+2 that me and my grandfather restored in 1999. All things considered its in really good shape but it is basically bone stock and that's just not what it to be.
I have no interest in keeping it original, that was just the only affordable way to do it at the time.
So anyway, on to the meat.
I'm currently trying to decide whether to do a complete overhaul on the car or just keep it as is and buy a new (as in 2015) one.
Goals would be:
5.0 coyote, eventually turbocharged.
Automatic transmission.
Stable on the road at 160+ mph. (not that I'd ever intend to drive it that fast on the street, i just want to know the car can keep up with the motor)
Will mainly be street driven, may take it to the local racetrack every once in a while just to see how fast it is in the 1/4.
I'd like to stick with the same suppliers as much as possible, just from personal experience the more business you do with someone the better they are about working with you.
Expecting to spend 40-50,000 USD when its all said and done, I wan't the suspension and drivetrain top notch, probably won't be spending a ton on the body as I would intend it to be a daily driver.
Anyway main questions are does anyone make an IRS that will hold up under that kind of power (assuming a turbo coyote once properly tuned will be pushing 550-650+ HP).
If no easily available IRS is suitable, who would you recommend for the suspension setup?
What kind of aerodynamic mods are needed to keep it steady at that speed?
I understand the need for some fairly heavy chassis stiffening in these cars, and I don't mind losing the back seats, Any recommendations on a roll cage that won't severely hinder entry to the front seats?
