I have had a great luck getting amazing help here for my engine issues. First time trying to find some help for a convertible top. When I purchase the car it had this front gap trim attached that was stapled and glued but it came detached and tore off. It is still in good condition to reattach but I also need to install the gasket that is supposed to go in front as well.

I have been looking for instructions but failed to find anything with clear pictures or details on a step-by-step basis. I am attaching a couple of pictures if anyone can help. This is for a 66 Mustang. I'm trying to find out what order they go in and if anybody has a video that would be great. I have a shop manual but it is still rather tricky on the visual end.

The front edge of your top is not installed well. The corners are not folded in and the material has not been properly trimmed. I don’t see any sign of the proper staples either. It is no wonder it is falling apart. The top should be glued in place then held with STAINLESS Steel staples. Next the Excess material trimmed. And then the weatherstrip is installed.

The front edge should look like the pics on page 73 & 74 in the guide sheza posted. Then the header seal gets installed with glue and staples As shown on pages 75-79. Finally the weather trip gets bolted and screwed into place.

Follow up questions..

Should I add staple, trim, and fold. Or is it something I have to take steps back further?

"Then attach the front center section by installing the retainer strip and screwing in place with 12 screws across the bow."
Does anyone have pictures of the weatherstrip screwed in place? What does the retainer strip look like? I attached a picture of one I found online. I don't think I have one with my car

I know my top was not installed perfectly by previous owners but I am only trying to finish it for weather/wind purposes. It is my weekend car for fun. They provided the parts/weatherstrip kit so I am trying to figure if I overlooked a piece.

THANK YOU!

I finished installing the trim and weather stripping on my mustang. I've always had a slight misalignment when latching down the top. The passenger side always needs a quick adjustment. Now with the weather stripping in there it takes quite a bit longer too get it locked down. Is there some type of adjustment I can make?

What do you mean by misalignment? Is the top shifted right to left or is the drivers side more forward then the passenger, is one side higher than another? There are several adjustment points in the top Depending on what is wrong.

That is not all too uncommon, but you can adjust the latch forward and back a small amount.by loosening the two bolts that hold it to the frame. The frame can also be adjusted a bit in the back whe it mounts to the car. It can be moved up a little to push the front forward. You will have to remove the staples from the front of the frame so the top is loose enough to adjust the frame.
The reason the latch moves up is because the threads are worn out where the bolt holding the handle to the latch frame. A helicoil can be used to repair it.

NPD or AMK should have those screw kits. Those are probably a #8, but then they are oval head chrome. You need to search the two companies mentioned. I have a 65 Vert and have purchased many specific kits from both.

This is probably what you need

Sun Visor Side Brackets and Windshield Top Molding Mounting Kit - #04145-1K - National Parts Depot

On some tops you have to latch one side, then hit the switch again to get the top to close a bit further. Do both sides come up evenly and together? If not you might need to replace one or both lift cylinders.

Unfortunately the best way to adjust the top frame is before you put the top one when you can adjust the frame to the windows and front header. Once you put the top in it is harder to make adjustments.
