Recently had some gauges installed and as I walked away I noticed the voltage gauge was reading even with the car off. In my limited search I found some that said it's completely normal. This is my first set of non-factory gauges and of course when the car is off the factory gauge goes off.

Basically is it normal to constantly read with non-factory gauges.

Thanks!

My speedhut gauges hold at their last position when I turn the car off. Even oil pressure, temp etc. I believe that this is a feature on purpose. When you hit the key you should see them Zero out and then go to the current reading.

Not a feature, a money saving decision. RTZ (return to zero) is something that has to be made into modern movements. Someone at the gauge company made the decision to not include it. Same with the 'cool' sweep 'feature' where the gauge goes full scale when powered on. It's not a design feature, it's the movement recovering from a bean-counter decision.

Mine stays at the current position as well. I am in the process of finishing my Speedhut gauges. Can those who have installed their gauges tell me what wire you used for lighting?

I posted a separate topic looking for help. But just thought i would post here as well. I had all gauges wired up and when i pressed the brake the gauges all lit up. It stopped once i disconnected the lighting wire i had connected. I was using a gauge lighting wire from the original harness connected to the white wires from Speedhut.

Is this the wrong wire? Which one did you guys use?

Red was connected to ignition key post and black was grounded. White for both the inverter and harness was connected to blue/red lighting wire.

People say I probably have a ground issue. Need to complete the other checks folks recommended.

Yes you used the correct wire. You can certainly use a different wire if you like, for example I use the ignition on wire for my lighting so whenever the car is running the backlighting is on, I like to see the GPS display and it's easier to see illuminated. However, you still have a problem that needs to be troubleshot so I wouldn't just swap wires, the blue and red wire is correct and shouldn't cause your backlighting to illuminate when your brakes or turn signals are active.

I also have the Speedhut Legacy gauges and they retain their position when the key is off as stated above, I wouldn't sweat it or worry about the draw, these gauges have very little draw as it is.
