A couple of seam sealer questions

I have combed my Osborne Weld and Sealant manual, and I can not find anywhere where it says to put seam sealer on the doors or the underside of the hood at the overlap seam. I do have a page that has me putting sealer on the underside of the trunk lid at the overlap (why here and not the others??). I could see maybe not sealing the bottom seam on the door to not trap water.

Also, all of this sealer I am about to do will be the visible stuff, meaning like in the jambs, fender to rocker, etc. I used 1 part Eastwood sealer for everything so far (under car, interior, etc) and it works good, but I have conerns about final paint cracking where seam seal is. Is there special sealer that dries hard to be used in the visible top coated areas? Or have people had success with the EW style of sealer.

Thanks!

I use the 3M heavy bodied (08308) and their self leveling (08307) 2 part seam sealers. They are not cheap but are very good products. I first identify everywhere a I plan to put it and then mark everything with tape so when I activate the products, I know exactly where I'll be applying it. If you use the 2K stuff you need to get it on pretty quick because it sets up fast. It is a lot more durable than the stuff that doesn't require an activator.

I can get that from Amazon pretty quick...cool. I already have the proper "gun" to dispense. Does this stuff dry hard or stay pliable like the 1K stuff?

I would say it is hard but not like crackable hard. It is sandable. I use the self leveling for things like the drip rail where I want a nice smooth finish. It will self level and flow down hill. It hardens similar to body filler like in 5 to 10 minutes or so. After it hardens sand ad trim as needed. The heavy bodied goes on like caulk. 3M has videos on how to apply it on YouTube. You can put tape on both sides of the seam and then fill between the tape lines. Once you get it applied go back and pull the tape for a nice clean line. If you take to long you'll have to score it with a razor before pulling the tape.
