Alternators and engine swap questions

Money, money, money!! How much do you want to spend? First, I went with a 1995 (Mustang GT) 3G alternator it was a direct bolt-on, try doing a search for a 3G conversion. The 3G put out 130 amps, some of those stock looking aftermarket alternators don't put out high amps at idle (my own experience). Next, upgrade your braking system first!

As I have gotten older I have become more and more against pulling out the old sixes and putting V8's in UNLESS you take a complete 5.0 and drivetrain from a Fox car and swap it in, giving you great fuel economy and reliability. Otherwise rebuild the six and add the latest performance upgrades.

Lastly, the car will probably NEVER handle like the BMW unless you want to spend some serious $$$.
I would simply replace the old stuff with new stock style components and perhaps lower the car a bit. Be carful when adding bigger/wider tires especially up front, it will have a negative effect on the stock style components (which were not designed for wide tires).

Be smart, ugrade the car only as needed for a weekend driver and save yourself a lot of money and aggravation... just my .02 cents.
