Hi Guys-
I've not posted here in years, but I look in every now and then!
I have a 1967 Coupe, 200 six cylinder and 3 speed. I'm the original owner's son. I grew up with the car, went to college in the late 70's early 80's and then retired it for weekend use in 1986 when I bought several new Mustangs over the years.
The poor car is pretty much original and in very good condition. Original paint and seats, cosmetically, it's pretty clean. But it's got a few areas that are in need. One is the charging system. I am considering a swap to the modern ones with the regulator built in for a one wire install. Have you guys got any recommendations? Performance Distributors has a good option as it has a factory appearance.
One thing to consider is that I have had enough fun with the car in it's current state. I always wanted V-8 power. So what I have been dreaming of doing for years is a crate 302 swap that will be built to look like a period 289, T5 or other 5 speed, either the TCP front end or similar with rack and pinion steering and at least front disc brakes from Stainless Steel Brake Corp and mid eye coils in the back.
So If I upgrade the alternator now, I hope to re-use it later. I'd consider a higher output one too if the V-8 needs it.
Additinally, I have a likely bad master brake cylinder. If I replace it now with a stock one, can I reuse it later with a power brake upgrade. I just need to make the car drivable for now and know it will stop!
Regarding the front suspension update that I am considering, I am not sure the coil over is necessary, and I might go for a conventional coil set up. Any comments on this, given the car is street driven and I just want it to handle well. I have a 2001 3 series BMW and it handles. I'd like the Mustang to get close to it! A lot of quesitons for a first time post, I know.
Thanks for any help and advise you can provide! Nelson
