C4 Transmission Lines

Hello all,

on my list is to replace the transmission cooling lines. There are some leaks through what appears to be rubber hose splices where they were rather damaged or cut. I haven’t taken it apart to look let.

As I shop for new ones and study their routing I’m not seeing where they are actually bracketed or supported. The replacement lines on line appear to not have any brackets attached.

So…

1. where are they supposed to be braced?
2. Do I need to purchase brackets, etc separately?

On my 65, I had a C4 and now a 4R70W. I have a pair of OEM style steel lines that go directly from the transmission, by the starter, over the steering linkage, along the RH side of the oil pan and directly to the radiator or transmission cooler mounted in front of the radiator, There are 2-3 clip on tabs that hold the lines in parallel (IN/OUT),and one clip that attaches the lines to the engine. It may be different on a 67.

I’m not sure if you planned on changing anything else out, but when we swapped the C4 for the C6 that’s in our ‘70 now, we got an oil cooler kit with braided stainless lines and AN fittings. It was probably $250. Mounted the cooler on the radiator support up front and used little screw in hose clamp’s in a few spots with heater hose for chafing. Didn’t have any issues with the long tube headers or anything else when routing the lines.

Get ye the chassis assembly manual. Routing and installation is covered in the transmission install drawing for your particular combo. Except for being clipped togeter at one point the run unsupported from the cooler to the trans body.

A crowfoot flarenut wrench makes the job on the trans side easier.
