Hi, please excuse any errors from this first time user!!!
Can anybody please tell me what the part name is for the tubular stabilizer bar and brackets that goes from the front of the engine bay fender apron back to the firewall on my 65, 289 convertible. I have been trying to find out whether the brackets are the same for both sides. One (Driver Side, Left hand drive)has been bent to make it fit and doesn't look correct.
Cheers Ric.

Just did these on my Original '65 Vert... Mine were labeled on one of the ends of each bar "L" and "R" believe it or not.. even though the bars look near identical to me... Go figure...Ford felt that they should mark them anyway..

Also, The Forward Mounting bracket for the bar on the Passenger side is actually mounted upside down as in your picture...and that is correct. The Driver's side is mounted the opposite, Right side up...which is correct for the Driver's side. Ford did this on the Passenger side of '65 Verts so that the Mounting bracket would not interfere with the Battery. It looks stupid that way, but its true. Your Passenger side Bar is mounted 100% correct. The Driver's side mounts differently, NOT the same...as I said, The Mounting bracket is reversed and the bar sits on the top of the Mounting bracket and not below it like on the Pass. side.

Believe that ONLY the Mounting Brackets themselves are Ambidextrous... The Bars themselves "Look" Ambidextrous, but they are not marked that way..

I don't know the technical term, but I can look it up. It may be "Torsion Bars" possibly.. I'll see if I can find a "FORD" answer for you.

In the meanwhile, Let see some pictures of this "Bent" Bar that you are talking about.....

And by the way...How on earth did you get away with the stock Left Hand Drive in Strict Australia??!?? Very curious. Most people have to have their cars converted to Right Hand Drive to be legal on the road I guess. Did they finally change the dopey law there??

)

This factory pic below DOES NOT show how the actual brackets was done on the Assembly line for the Passenger side. What is depicted is more correct for the Driver's Side.

The "Running Production Change" on the Mounting Bracket for the Pass. side was done obviously AFTER this Factory TSB Diagram was written. Actual Production (in all three plants I believe) had the bracket flipped upside down on the PASS. side.)...just as you have it installed in the picture that you posted...but this was done ONLY on the PASS side and the bar was mounted below. The Driver's side was the complete REVERSE with the Mounting bracket mounted normally with the bar on top...just as pictured in the Diagram below...even though the Diagram shows it incorrectly installed on the PASS. side.) Tony K.

Thanks Tony that helps clear thing up a little. Where did you find the JPG file with the brackets in it?? I cant quite read the part number of the bracket. Attached are two photos.

Yes Australia was quite strict but if the vehicle being registered is prior to a certain year of manufacture (not sure of the year) then it can be registered and driven without further stipulations.
