coil wire shorted out on air cleaner

I am runing a cobra oval air cleaner on my 289, i have an edelbrock performer manifold & 4 barrel carb, no spacer, the wires are taylor wires & the coil wire has the 90* elbow on it, the wires ( I thought) fit under the air cleaner perfectly but driving the car the other day, she quit on me, a few minutes of panic then I said, ok, i have fuel coming to the carb, it must be spark, well i noticed the closeness of the coil wire, moved the air cleaner to the side & she fired right up, now what can i do to resolve this problem, I thinkg if i add a spacer I may not clear the hood &/or the export brace. as it is right now, the lower part of the air cleaner is just below the rear firewall lip, the filter itself sits nicely in place with the firewall lip just clearing the filter, then the top fits above the firewall lip. I think if i add a spacer the a/c will now hit the lip & if i go too high, the hood will interfear. i do have a fiberglass shelby style hood w/ hood scoop.
any ideas?

Just get a piece of stick on thick rubber and put it on the bottom of the aircleaner where they are close.

Alternatively just wrap the portion of the coil wire that touches in several layers of electrical tape over about a 2" length.

Taylor wires are usually pretty good. You might have a bad one if it shorts against something. Might want to call Taylor, or whever you bought them and see if they what their failure policy is. Alternatively, can you zip tie the wire somewhere? That is a short term fix though if the wire is arcing.

it is not the wire that is the issue, the issue is the lower portion of the air cleaer rubbed against the boot so much that it wore through the rubber & is causing the cire to short out. if i put a new wire on, it will do the same thing again, if I put rubber on the botttom of the air cleaner, then it will surely rub, although it will not be metal chaffing

Ok, got it now. Then you need to put something in between so the wire rub it instead of the metal. A piece of old bicycle tire tube works well. You can attach it with 2 sided tape on the bottom of the air cleaner where it can't be seen.
