I'm restoring my '68 FB 302 4v, and I want to restore it to exactly or as close to completely original and stock that I can. What books/magazines/web sites/other might I be able to find exact part numbers and types? I am also planning on ordering assebly manuals/resto guides/shop manuals. Any suggestions on those as well?

Some pics of my car are here

First, welcome to VMF.
Second, great pics of the car. Looks like you have some work ahead of you.
Third, start with a shop manual and an NPD catalog. So far NPD seems to have a lot of hints for a concours (original) car. If you're looking to show the car, ask one of the local VMFers that do MCA judging. I'm sure they will be willing to give some helpful hints.

First and foremost get our pocket book out. It will cost lots of $$ if you want to do it right. Second, chances are you will never find all the "original" parts. You may come close with enough money, but probably will never get all the way there unless the car is virtually unmolested to begin with. A good donor car will be the best bet. You can take parts of and have them refurbished easier sometimes than trying to find them. Ehay is a decent place to find parts if you know exactly what you are looking for and can spot a fraud easily. There are lots of places to buy parts even NOS (new old stock) but it will not be as good as the "original" in most cases. NPD (National Prts Depot), Mustangs Plus, Ponderosa Mustang, The Mustang Ranch, Mustangs Unlimited, Virginia Mustang, Dallas Mustang and on and on. Others will have other ideas.

The mustangsunlimited catalog is one I like (in addtion to the NPD one).

Judging from the pictures, you might need a suspension rebuild. The rubber on the shocks looks bad. And shocks are the easiest part of the suspension to replace.

Yeah, that master cylinder looks bad.

Let me give you one little trick.

I go to amazon.com to ~search~ for books. And copy into notepad the ISDN of the books I want. Then I go to alldirect.com and buy the books.

Yeah. Its not 100% ethical, but man. the alldirect prices are always better.

Color Photos have always been best for me. When I'm trying to be like the original. And the images in real books are alot better for detail.

It should be mentioned, however, that order from Amazon via the link on the main VMF page puts a few pennies in bob's pocket. Don't forget: bob isn't making money on VMF. Support the site that supports you!

If you insist on ordering the book cheaper elsewhere, how about donating some or all of the difference to VMF? There's a PayPal link for donations as well.

When in doubt, go according to the MCA judging rule book.
Go and LOOK at countless restored Mustangs that win in shows. Carry a legal pad and take notes on them. Talk to the owners, some of them do their own work and get it quite right.

If you are talking about a Thoroughbred restoration, it would cost lots of money and be hard to do with "original" parts. But, if you are doing a concours restoration with reproduction parts, it is no more expensive than a resto mod. You do not have to have NOS parts to have a concours car.

I think aside from the $$ issue, you need to hook up with someone
who`s `been there done that' it will save you from spending xtra
$ that you dont need to
there are quite a few people on the VMF that are MCA judges and have restored
68/67s to MCA show standerds, Laurie [trouble an murphy] would be a great source
of info, e-mail her

Great looking car! In looking at the engine pictures though, did you have a small fire under the hood? Some pictures show some char around the intake/carb area?
