As above, check to be sure your choke is open and not on the fast idle cam. Possibly damaged the choke thermal spring?

The choke bi-metal coil is neither electronic nor polar so it wouldn't care which way the current flows.

My bad, didn't realize it was thermal and not 12v...

Who says you hooked it up backwards? Why would your battery be constrained to only 1 right position, why not 2 or more and maybe the battery is positional fluid.

It is merely the vestiges of the neo classical decadent imperialistic bourgeoise with their iron hob nail boots on the throats of the proletariat who will rise up and shatter the yoke of oppression that keeps the battery in it's constrained hook up dungeon.

"Backwards" is really just a matter of popular opinion anyway, who is to say what is really backwards without being judgmental? My '51 Dodge would think positive to positive is really what is backwards, along with the thinking 12 volts is somehow better than 6? All in the eye of the bewildered...
