Been posting a bit on the struggle to get a S GT 4 speed going after a total restoration.
Spark issue turned out to be bad ponts. So after that still no "vroom"...
Check fuel pump, nothing. Pull pump, bench test, works. Back in, nothing. So pull one off a X code I am taking apart. Notice lever arm is diferent to pump #1. Put it in, works, fuel, check...
So spark, fuel compresstion. But turn key and chuga-chuga-chuga... no go. Fiddle with timing, check cap, leads, etc... nothing. Free stuck distributor. Crank full CCW nothing, full CW nothing...about 4 spots in between. Nothing. hmmm.....
It "almost" started, if you pressed the accellerator repeatedly it would stuggle to go... so figure "carb".
As they old wives tale goes that if you let a Holley sit for a week the leak, go-bad, and deconstruct themselves... so as this one sat for about 4 years after rebuilding figure I'll check it out. Float level is perfect. Accelerator pump squirts fine. But.. as I have a second S code, figure I'll swap and see.
Pull the two carbs. Swap the new one onto the convertible, fires up instantly and purrs like a kitten... put the convertible carb onto the coupe, still stuggles... so figure "has to be timing".
Swap the carbs back.
Fiddle with the distributor. Nothing... then my friend helping mentions he had a simialr issue, ended up moving the plug leads on the distributor one spot CW. So figure "WTF", makes no sense to me, but at this point ready to try anything.
Move the wires. Turn the key... "vroom".... a micro-tad rough, but a pretty good idle... amazing.
So now it runs. Finally... 7 years on. Hopefully on the road within a month or so as there are still a few odds-and-ends to go...
Anyone have a clue why the leads would need to move 1 spot CW... just sooo weird.... engine was spot-on tested for cam/timing set/TDC and distributor set to #1 on the stand.
