The original generator is gone so the alternator is going in. What do I need to do to get this up and running correctly? Would a new alternator harness work at the firewall connection? What about the regulator, does this need to be replaced?
Where do I read up on a 3g conversion?Have you thought about a 3g conversion? That way just go alt to battery, ditch a voltage regulator but keep the rest.
conversion from generator to 3G. Most of what I found was from original alternators to 3 G.Where do I read up on a 3g conversion?

Since I've had a fully restored alternator on the shelf for years, this is what I will go with. I did not know a rewiring diagram existed. Will start on that today. Thanks for the heads up.this link will help you greatly;

That's about the gist of it... although your generator warning lamp will no longer function.Any issue with converting to a 1 wire alt from a generator?
Looks like the power for the horn would need extended to a full time 12 volt source but otherwise could likely eliminate the generator harness and regulator?
Has anyone else done this?
there used to be a one wire conversion kit for ford alternators. i havent found any recently, but i used one when i converted my falcon to an alternator. works fine with a 55amp alternator.Any issue with converting to a 1 wire alt from a generator?

If you go to a 3-wire you can retain your warning lamp function. They also make alternators in generator housings now, too. Allows you to retain existing brackets, etc.Thanks - I am working on a 64.5 generator car and in order to convert to an alternator, the simplest wiring change is appealing to me.
It seems that an aftermarket 1 wire alternator might be the way to go.....
this is a good option that i plan on going with at some point. i will have to scare up some generator brackets though to make the conversion.If you go to a 3-wire you can retain your warning lamp function.
