That was par for the course as the paint and the vinyl came from different suppliers. You COULD try having an auto paint store mix you some aerosol cans or pints to spray of 71315 Ditzler/PPG.

 

thanks, but from what I've read on VMF is that the 71315 paint code can't be cross referenced or doesn't exist.
I will call an auto body paint company next week to ask.

 

.....Or, you could seek an auto paint supplier in your area that has a "spectrophotometer" ( color match camera). perhaps, they can "shoot" the panel to custom mix a paint. I've used this process a number of times when restoring my vintage scoots. I like that it can adjust for the weathering of paint, to some degree.

 

Can someone post a pic of the interior their 1965 TMI door panel and the Bright red Accu match paint from Scott drake L-6022?
When I put a painted test piece of metal next to the new TMI panel, the bright red noted above is a little darker than the TMI panel. I seen pics on this site that show the interior doors and door panels that match almost perfectly. I haven't seen any restored bright red door pics so I don't know how close it supposed to match. The new color is no where close to the original interior red paint but I guess 50 tears has faded the Bright red interior metal parts. I was hoping not to have to paint the all of the interior....

I thought I would give y'all an update on my search for the the correct 1965 mustang interior bright red paint and the winner is NPD part # AP-6022R. it matches perfectly with the painted area under the dash pad that hasn't seen the light of day since 1965 and even better is that it is a semigloss finish as it should be.
Sorry Scott but your Accu Match brand part # L-6022 didn't come close. it was too dark and super glossy.

Hello, Thank you for that information. My carpet in my 65 is Ford Dark Red. Will the NPT A;-6022 be a match for that carpet? Another question. Did the 1965 Mustang come with any other interior red color than "bright red"? I will paint the lower part of the dash to match the doors and the rear (back seat ) quarter panels so maybe bright red is the color to go with. In the past 5 years I've bought Tahoe turquoise in spray cans from 2 different online companies. Both supplier's cans matched the original paint on the car. You can try that but be sure to use the correct factory code for your car. Too often the aftermarket interior panels aren't true factory colors.

 

Ditzler/PPG Paint Formula codes, mixed to a 20% gloss. Typically, since they were all made by different suppliers, the dash pad, seat upholstery, door panels and carpet will all be "red" but will not all match each other or the painted metal surfaces.
