I've got a 65 coupe that already has a 3 speed manual and a 4 core Automatic transmission. I've found a donor car with an automatic, the owner is going to sell me the following items, what else do I need or is anything listed that I don't need? Thanks,

Transmission lines:
C4 (cruiseomatic) Trans:
Shifter and Linkages:
Brake pedal and underdash assembly:(do I need both)
Fly Wheel:
Drive Shaft and Yoke:

Another question? do I need to get the whole support assembly for a brake only car or can I just swap out the pedal arm in the existing support assembly? Does the assembly have to be removed from the car to do this? Thanks,

If you don't like the three speed (who doesn't, the gear ratios suck) you might want to checkout a T-5 5 speed swap, that should make the car alot of fun to drive.

FWIW, I hate automatics, so going from a manual to an auto is bass-ackwards to me.

If you do get that C-4, you'll also need the block plate, whcich goes in between the black and bellhousing. If you have a V-8, then grab the starter as well.

Thanks for the info, I've got nothing against the manual and considered a t-5 swap but... I'm 6'4" with 34" inseam so it's a real pain to work the clutch pedal. I'm using a stock black 3 prong steering wheel, those things are huge. Do I need the crossmember? and the starter? Is $150 for the stock driveshaft and yoke a fair price?

Hey,
The brake pedal supports are the same from stick or auto so you can change just the pedals if you want.Personally I think $150 seems a bit high for a used driveshaft, unless it's been balanced with new u joints, etc. If your car is already a v8 your current driveshaft should be fine? Maybe I'm wrong on this one?

It would be great if my current drive shaft would interchange. My car is currently a v8 289 with 3 speed manual. It's also good to hear all I need is the pedal and not the support. How difficult is it to change the pedal? Does the support need to be removed to do this? thanks,

Technically The pedal bracket doesn't have to be removed to swap the pedals,It definately gets a little tight trying to work under the dash there though. As far as the driveshaft I would try to fit it in.I'm pretty certain your shaft will work no problem I believe they are the same length wise etc. Just to throw this out there if you decide to sell/trade some of your stick shift stuff let me know as I have a friend looking for things like pedals,Z bar, etc. We have a bunch of parts kicking around as well.

Yes, $150 for a used driveline is too much. I would also consider an AOD automatic if I was to go through this much work, but AOD are typically more expensive.

Gotcha on the height, I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam, and my 71 is even a touch tight at times with the clutch.

Driveshaft is the same between 3-spd and C-4. Ford used different part #'s, but the difference is only like 1/16" in length. Reuse your current unit.

Starter you must change, the nose length is different between auto and stick. Remans are $30 at Advance, Part America, Checker, etc.

Don't bother changing the brake pedal, more of a PITA then it's worth. I'd just tuck the clutch pedal up under the carpet and leave it alone.

don't forget to remove pilot bushing in the end of the crankshaft used only on manual transmissions. gary
I love my C4, I drive my car like I love it, so an automatic is nice.

I plan to attatch an overdrive to the backside someday when I get some extra cash. This way I have a basic c4 to fix...the overdrive add on is bullet proof and will give me 6 forward gears (2 reverse...but not important)

get all the bolts
torq converter
get all the bolts
wire harness
6'4"...good luck...remove front driver seat...1st
get all the bolts
maybe tranny mount and cross member
did you notice? get all the bolts
brake pedals are bothe same on 65-66.may as well order new bushings for brake pedal now.
get the kick down parts too....65 to 66 are diff setups

Trans mount and crossmember is the same but what year is the donor car? If it's a '65/'66 then your're gold but the further away you go in years, the more little things can creep in. Such as the '67 and up trans have the normal shift pattern while the '65/'66 have the Green Dot shift pattern.

Also, if you are getting parts from a '66 then grab the accellerator pedal assembly, it has an arm that points down which the kick down cable is attached to. The '65 V8s used a bell crank assembly for the kick down and are rather hard to find. The kick down link on the transmission is also '65 or '66 specific.

Grab as much as you can.

My car is a 65, the donor car is a 66. That's the first time I heard about the accel. pedal being different.
I can get the pedal assembly for 75 or the pedal for 20 and reuse my assembly, or tuck it under for the meantime as suggested.
