just got the engine back together. It started up I set the idle at 2000rpm ran about 5 minutes and blue the overflow hose off so I shut it down. I kicked the spal fan on manually to aid cooling while I was waiting. After it cooled down I added water and then started it up again it ran for about 1 minute and die no cough just flat died. It started back up again ran less than a minute and died again. Not it cranks but doesn't try to start?

Could the new 100amp alt have burnt up the old voltage regulator?
It has a mallory unilite dizzy and a mallory highfire ignition box that it brand new the last hyfire box lasted less than 48 hrs

Any ideas are welcome.......thanks

I did the test mallory test and the hyfire box is shot I figure it must have to do with the fact I have no resitor wire or ballist resistor. I am going to bypass the box and try just using the unilite Please give me your thoughts on this mess I am in.

I have that same problem. It seemed to stop after I adjusted the manual linkage to the automatic transmission, but it did it again to me today.

Autozone carrys a Mopar Ballast resistor for like $2.99, I found it dropped the voltage as much as the $20 Mallory one. Definitly put one on. Good Luck.

According to the wiring Diagram that comes with the Mallory Hyfire VI-AL and the directions it say to connect it to 12v switched source such as ignition key. So my wiring shouldn't have fried it.
As for the unilite there instructions say
RED WIRE: If you use loom resistance wire, connect to the coil (+) terminal.
If you use a ballast resistor, connect to 12 volt side of ballast
resistor.
GREEN WIRE: Connect to the coil (–) terminal.
BROWN WIRE: Connect to engine block ground.

so there saying hook it to 12v if I am reading it right.

above those diagrams it shows this
Distributors: (NOTE: There are two ways to wire up the Unilite® or M.B.I distributors. BOTH are correct. The newer version (listed in the current installation documents) allows more supply voltage to the positive side of the module) but now I can't get spark from the coil with the hyfire not even in the system
