The post below about spare engines got me thinking.
How do you all store your spare engines?
Do you paint the outside? Coat them with oil?
With transmission fluid? Wrap in plastic, etc....

How do you prevent them from rusting, etc.

Thanks all

I think the best way to prevent stored engines from going bad is get them off the floor.

I've constructed a simple "cradle" out of scrap 2 x 6 lumber, two 24" long parallel boards standing upright 9" apart. The oil pan rail rests on the upright boards.

A good idea to remove the spark plugs and squirt some oil in the cylinders too..

You know, I never thought of that. Thanks man!

I have an extra 200ci sinking in the mud behind my garage. It will give the geologists of the future something to get excited about. ::

I fill them with oil. It goes in the valve covers and down the carb. Also in the spark plug holes. Seems to work. I had a 66 289 that had been rebuilt, low miles that sat for 18 years. I drained the oil, put in fresh and fired it up. I was supprised. It was on a stand and has been filled back up and stashed away again. ::
