I used a large standard screwdriver and thought it was coming out. Now I’ve got this. Should I use a socket to punch it in and then pull the plug out?

If you have room to place a screw driver or punch at 4 or 8 o’clock and collapse the plug then wedge blade in behind there and the block to pry it out.
In your pic block appears cracked?

My first car was a v8 65 mustang. Hid it from my dad. Showed it to him in the spring (i put it in a friend's barn over the winter). When I went to show him in the spring it couldn't hold its water. Pouring out the side of the block. I thought it was cracked. So bummed. Turns out the frost plugs did their job. Great learning experiance,,,
