LOL, I bet he had a helluva brake job done after that...

I like burnouts as much as the next guy, but those contests are silly to me. But that's just me. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Dunno what the point of it is up there, but down here at Summernats they do that, and a lot of other things for Spectator enjoyment, self satisfaction in a well built machine, but most of all for CASH!!

You may be interested to know that Gary Myers, in a '66 Mustang, is currently the champion in the Burnout comp...and exceeds 2minutes... Can't find the video footage at the moment...but, it has been posted before.

BTW - I think that ricer should have invested in a line locker!! LOL

ps...appologies....GM didn't compete in the 2002 competition - the current champion is someone else. GM was the 2001 champion....how time flies!!

Yeah...I picked up on the camaro on the second look /forums/images/icons/blush.gif I stand corrected....

Yes...I believe line lockers can be used for the title....and I believe you get bonus points if your tyres blow!! (perhaps you just get a bigger crowd response!!)

The point - well...pretty much the same could be said for driving around a track for lap after lap after lap....or running endless 1/4 miles to drop you time .01 of a second...or rebuilding a car to concours standards....or higly modifying a car for show......test of owner/driver and machine and workmanship in a competitive environment.... The dollars are pretty big...provides national exposure - he gets paid to take his cars to shows...and gets cover/centerfold spreads in the car mags... I think that is pretty good incentive if that is what you are into...

As for it being safe....can't comment on Bish's video - but seeing they had the extinguishers there quick, it's probably not a back yard event (looked to be on a drag strip)....but, Summernats is a highly organised event, conducted on race tracks with suitable crowd barriers etc.....as safe as it gets I guess....
