Is my antenna standard on my '67 convert.? Help me replace it? (pictures)

The original radio was replaced by the previous owner with an AM/FM Cassette radio. Not sure if that would have required a different antenna (is an AM antenna different than an FM antenna?)

Anyway, the antenna is old and needs replacing. NPD catalog seems to show a round base antenna, but not a rectangular base that I have. Does this look familiar? Any suggestions for replacing the base and antenna? Would you recommend a power antenna too? Thanks.

I have a '67 and it has a round antenna base. Sounds like a PO replaced it with a rectangular one.
If you are trying to stay original, then go with the "proper" antenna. If not, go with what pleases you :)A power one could be a neat additon.
Check Mustang Monthly for articles on replacing the antenna.
Good luck !!

I'd like to stay with the original look. I plan to eventually do some body work and paint (as economically as possible).

I'll wait and see if anyone else is aware of this "rectangular" base. However, I'll probably replace it with the "round" base, if that's the original look. Thanks!

That's a replacement antenna. You should have a round base antenna on a 1967.

Your rectangular base appears to be a Ford part for a Fairlane or Galaxie of the same era (looks just like the antenna on my '67 Ranchero) . IIRC, Ford started using that base on the Mustang in 1969 or 1970.

The rectangular base antenna shows up on late 1968s, like my coupe. It wasn't used in 1967 at all. This is a running argument, of course, in MCA, but there are documented original owner late 68s from all three factories that came with the rectangular base antenna. Probably just a matter of supplies running out near the end of the model year run.

I second the vote for a power antenna. A round base chrome power antenna looks nice, doesn't get broken off, *and* you can put a nice cover over your car to protect that new paint a lot easier when there isn't an antenna in the way.

That's not an aftermarket antenna, it's a Ford service part replacement.
