I started my car up today and it didnt start so I turn it off and I can still it cranking with the key out of the ignition I had to disconnect the battery cable to stop it. What mighty be the cause of this.

Sounds like a shorted starter solenoid (about $15.00 at Auto Zone).

Good way to test is to crank it again and if the starter keeps spinning, wack the soleinoid with a hammer handle a couple times to see if it will unstick.
You mentioned it would not start so I also wonder if you have messed with the wiring lately underhood?

Solenoid--happened on my coupe right before the Phoenix National.

My solenoid crapped out the morning of a show. It always happens at the worst time....at least it's CHEAP!

I did change the starter solenoid and it still does it. It doesnt do it all the time it just sometimes

do you have the wires on the small post swapped.

It seems like I have a defective starter.
