Keeping warm

I hate to admit it, but even here in the sunny California desert it has started to get cold at night. Right now it's about 42* outside and it can get tough wrenching if it's done outdoors.

I came up with a neat solution though. I just replaced the washing machine for SWMBO because the old one crapped out but before I took it to the recycling center I removed the big tub inside. Then I took a galvanized fence pole, welded it to an old tire rim and put the tub on top so it stands about three feet off the ground. Then I loaded it up with wood and got a nice fire going.

The holes in the tub are great for letting out the heat. All I need now are three other guys and we can wrench and sing Do-*** and hang out in the cold. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

You all should give it a shot. Even if you don't have a busted washer, use SWMBO's. She's probably tired of doing laundry anyway and won't mind...until she finds out. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Yeah, but it's a "dry cold" and feels much worse to us desert rats. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

The heat of the summer thins the blood down I guess. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif It might help avoiding strokes but I've gotten cold at the beach with an onshore breeze at 72*...Chill factor and all that. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Hi Jim, I'm sitting here in front of the computer with the heater on plus a blanket shawl, and its 65 in the basement. And I'm freezing! Its 12 degrees outside right now. You might get a white Christmas there yet! Happy Holidays!

P.S. Your washer drum stove idea reminds me of a giant marshmellow on a stick, hehe!...Sorry, just my imagination at work, hehehe.

Jim,
Your blood does get thinner. When we go back to the US from the tropics of Pma. we freeze our tails off in May in Mo. We had a medical exam in the US and the Dr. was puzzled about our blood counts until he found out that we live 1 mile from the ocean in the tropics. I guess that does something to your circulatory system.

A funny. Several years ago we flew back to Tulsa for Christmas. Our youngest had never seen snow and only knew the heat and running barefoot in Panama. There was 11 inches of snow on the ground when we arrived. At her grandparents house she insisted on playing outside barefoot and in her Panama clothes. So, barefoot in shorts and a short sleeve shirt she headed into the 11 inches of snow. She enjoyed about 45 seconds of it and decided that she needed no more.

Gosh, I'm starting to reminisce. My wife has been gone too long!!!!

Jim - Why not vent your new dryer directly towards where you'll be wrenching? That way you can try to get credit for doing the laundry at the same time you work on the mustang - all while staying toasty warm ! /forums/images/icons/cool.gif Dickson
