Getting ready to install the track system back onto Red's drivers seat and noticed that internally there is like a wax substance, probably for lubricating but it is so old and stiff, the daughter has a problem moving the seat. What is the best way to clean these tracks? Looks like you cant disassemble, but odds are there must be a trick. I see nylon guides that might be design to help the movement but this particular seat is real hard to move. What if I soak the track in my parts cleaner tank? Maybe that would help loosen up the slide, let it dry out and then squirt some grease inside?

Oh yeah, on a 65, is the release lever on the same side for both driver and passenger seats?

The release lever is on the same side as the seat track is the same, left or right. I use spray degreaser on the track and then relube it with spray white lithium grease.
Thanks, Doc

Oh goodie. So I get to continue to hopefully finish up the other seat tonight.

Thanks for clarification. Yes mummified grease is a perfect description.

Sounds like an area that i would use liquid graphite myself but then again i use the stuff quite a bit on my jobsites too.
The stuff i use comes in a spaycan with a straw and its primarily used for lubing lock mechanisms.
It sprays on wet but dries quikly so as to not be messy.
I use it on sticky sliding patio doors and squeaky exterior door hinges and if you have a draggy sounding overhead garage door opener motor spray a little on all the rollers on the door.

Lithium grease is probably the right stuff to use but im thinking about that stray french frie that falls out of the bag and rolls under my seat coming in contact with the grease and contaminating my ketchup! Baaahaaa!

Tonight I soaked both tracks from the drivers seat in my solvent tank then blew it out afterwards. Total difference. After it dried up, I lubed it up with grease. What a difference now.
