I wrote to Fram to ask if the PCV FV156 for the 1965-1968 289 and other Ford applications was similar to any other PCV they made that had a right angle on it. Fram says that the PCV is unique and no other one they manufacture is a replacement. See e-mail below. Who would have known.

Thank you for the e-mail regarding a PCV valve with a 90 degree fitting for use on your 1965 Ford Mustang 289 CID
engine. We welcome the opportunity to be of service.

We regret to inform that the FV156 is the only PCV valve offered for the 1965 Ford Mustang 289 engine. According to our engineers, the FV156 incorporates a unique internal design. A version of this valve with a 90 degree fitting was never included in our product line. According to our engineers, none of the PCV valves with 90 degree fittings that are currently offered by Fram are compatible with the FV156.

Thank you for considering Fram filters.

Cordially,

What can I say, I'm in a good mood...

What do I really think about Fram?

They're crappy parts, sold at SOME crappy stores, by SOME crappy counterpeople (not all are crappy, but SOME of the ones that are just don't know it), bought by people who don't know any better, are too cheap to buy quality parts, or are themselves SOMETIMES crappy.

Did I mention how crappy their parts are?

The above statements are in no way directed at anyone in particular. They are MY opinion based on MY experience with crappy counterpeople and crappy stores in MY AREA!!!

If there are two ways to interpret the meaning of my above statements, and one way makes you feel sad or hurt /forums/images/icons/frown.gif, I meant the other one.../forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Love,
Mark

Autolite is another division of Allied Signal. I've never had a problem with Autolite products. For that matter, I've never had a problem with Bendix or Prestone products, also Allied Signal. In '99, Allied Signal merged with Honeywell. I haven't used any of these products in the past ten years.

Maybe they've improved the quality of their Fram product line, but I have my reservations.

For routine maintenance of generic vehicles, I'm sure Fram is fine. But for my Mustang, I make every attempt to use higher quality parts.

I take exception to the "crappy counterperson." I work at Kragen Auto Parts, and we are niether a "crappy" store, nor do we have "crappy" counterpersons.

How rude.

In Canada we have "Crappy Tire". Same routine; Crappy parts, clueless counter people: OK, the stores aren't crappy but most everything else is. Used to have a decent auto supply store here; Drivers Auto Parts; now Parts Source & guess what; owned by Crappy Tire. In fairness to their employees I shouldn't be surprised at the lack of knowledge considering the wages they're paid.

I saw one just now while looking at the PCV valves in my Mustangs Unlimited catalog. It has two branches, not sure what the second one is for, maybe for a charcoal canister. You might be able to find one with a single branch.

When I worked as a counterperson at an INDEPENDENTLY OWNED AUTOPARTS STORE, these elbows were also available thru Standard Ignition and Borg Warner, probably others as well.

Check out the Standard Ignition website. They list four valves (V156, V157, V100, V202)for 65-73 Mustangs (sorry about the formatting):

73 i1V202
72 i1V156

352,390,406 Eng. -All i1V100
352,427 Eng. -All i1V156
390 Eng. -All i1V156

They also list a PCV elbow, but I think it is the air cleaner elbow:

72-68 Size 1/2" ID GV3

It's probably better to find a hardcopy of the Standard Ignition catalog. They have photos of their parts in the back. Or ask at your local parts store. A good counterperson will know exactly what you're talking about, know the part number, know where the part is located, and how much it costs....hehe
