If you have a distributer with the large style cap on it & its on a carb'd car. Can you please post a picture. I'm getting a new custom roller cam made and I will need to change the gear to steel. But I may as well just buy a new dizzy. I was looking at the MSD stuff, and the one with the small style top doesn't have a steel gear. And I would have to buy that as well & that part is another 75-85 bucks. But if the big style cap looks ok in my eyes, then I might just buy one of those.

Thanks,
Scott

I have an MSD gear on a Duraspark Dizzy from a '94 f-150. If I was you, I'd pay the MSD guys to put the steel gear on their dizzy. It'll be worth it. The guy that put mine on F****d up my dizzy. He's supposed to be a high performance engine rebuilder but when I got my dizzy back, it acted like it was locked out. This guy didn't take the dizzy aprt, he just jammed it on, which caused the upper shaft to bind into the lower shaft. I have gotten it to act normally now. But I could have avoided a lot of frustration with the gear and advance curve if I had just bought it all from MSD. Which is what I will need to do anyway...

Here's the MSD pro billet in my '66's 289 (click on the pics for larger versions):

And the one in my '69's 408:

IIRC, the steel gear is an option on the 289/302 distributor, but not on the 351w distributor. I had MSD install the steel gear on my 351w distributor. They charged me for the steel gear, put another cast gear on it, and sent it back to me. They took care of the problem quickly, but I mention this as people do screw up. Be sure to check the distributor that it has the steel gear on it, when it comes back.

Yes the air cleaner is close to the plug wires . I had to install a .500" spacer under the carb to clear the plug wires .
