Reverse lights on a 1967 Mustang

I have replaced both reverse lights and cleaned up the sockets. Neither one works. I recall reading that there is some type of relay that may be bad if both are out but I cannot find that thread now. Can anyone tell me where to look next?

Check the switch at the transmission. Also check the fuse it's a 14 AMP located at the top left of the fuse panel.

When troubleshooting, use a meter to verify you have 12v at socket. There is NO relay. A big mistake sometimes made, it uses a special 1142 bulb. Not a common 1156 or 1157 bulb. Make sure shifter backup switch plugged in a works. But the wrong bulb in, it'll blow the fuse.

what coupe3w and sixtysevengtcon said, check the switch and maybe check for continuity through the switch when the shifter is in reverse. if the car starts in neutral and park then is it safe to assume the switch alignment is still good?

I've checked the fuse (it's good), but not the transmissions switch. I'll look at that next. Appreciate the help. You all are a blessing!
