So my body man is trying to fix some cancer on my subframe connectors. He found a cover/cap weld on piece from cj pony. Problem is they discontinued the part. Do y'all know anyone else that makes a weld in cover to help sturdy everything else up?
I'm not 100% sure why he doesn't just cut it out and weld new ones in? There was not a lot of money difference between the 2... Any thoughts or direction on where to maybe find something to place over the existing subframe other than fabricating?

so are you saying that your body guy wants to just weld a new piece over the rusted piece? does this mean that the rusted piece will still be part of the car?

?

I assumed that he was covering it up. Don't get me wrong, it's still stable and works fine, just some small holes in it... But I would think patching it would work ok. I think he is coming more from a cosmetic issue. He doesn't want it to looked "patched" up.
I will have to ask him about just replacing them... I don't know why he doesn't want to do that? In case any of you have a cj pony book. He wanted part m160 left and right. I guess it's in the catalog but not online since they don't have it anymore

I cant fully picture it in my head. Is it an add on connecter that is rusted or a piece of the subframe. Almost either way any rust in a "hollow" should be done away with and treated before closing. I think its TinMan? that sells some subframe conn.s that slide into the orig frame rail for a clean look and prob the best stability/benefit and longevity.
i saw 1 fake sub frame "repair," a new one was split and slide over the old. It prol "looked" good for a while but by the time i saw it was double fudged with rust and flakes.

I assumed that he was covering it up.
Not on my car,....Try to find out what he plans to do. Certainly he's not gonna just weld this over the rusted section.

I would never just cover up rust, always cut it out and do it the proper way. especially on anything that has even slightest job in supporting the car. I think that covering up the rust is a cheap Band-Aid, so I highly recommend that you do it the proper way. As for subframe connectors (if you are looking into getting a set) get a Maier racing set. They are the best you can buy in my opinion. I've been to their shop multiple times, talked to Mike for hours and have seen them making them in house/ installing them. just my 2 cents lol. Good luck with your ride
