i just got the T5 swap done on my car.....come to find out the trans i installed needs rebuilt. 3rd gear is damn near gone!

anyways, the issues im having is, while accelerating from a stop.....the car shakes VIOLENTLY, and bogs down. best way to describe it is it feels like its trying to stall out....the shaking is horrible! now i know this car ran/drove perfect befor the trans swap. and that is the ONLY time it acts up.

my question is, has anyone had this problem befor when doing the T5 swap? i havent checked my driveline angle yet, could this be a factor?

^ damn im really glad u posted that!!! right befor i put the trans in the car i opened it up and the front main bearing seemed like it had ALOT of play in it, but ive never messed with the inside of a trans befor so i wasnt sure if it was normal or not! idk y, but i was thinkin it was more of a free float design

im just gonna buy a master rebuild kit for it and have a local shop do a bench build on it.

i guess i got lucky with the driveline angle cuz i didnt have vibration in any other gear.

i didnt even take the clutch off the car.....the clutch is a hayes stage 2 with only like 900miles on it....it was fine befor i took the 4speed out.

the u-joints were fine as well. i used the trans mount that was on the 4speed and it was also new. its all bolted down tight

but you would think that if it WAS a off center problem, it would do it 24/7 and not just when taking off from a stop.....correct?

im gonna rebuild the trans since it needs it anyways. reinstall everything and see where i stand at on the issue, if its still there then i guess im gonna have to start doing alot of research, make a list, and start crossing possibilitys off as i go lol.

Could the chatter be due to there still being a little pressure applied to the pressure plate, when in a "supposedly" relaxed position? Perhaps the throw out bearing arm and associated linkage is not relaxed. I would insure there is some
"play" starting with the pedal and onto the arm. Also, depending on the year of your T5, there are differences in the input shaft lengths.
Good Luck!

the chatter dosent accure during a "relaxed position" the only time it occurs is in a "under pressure position" when leaving from a stop (usually while going up a slope or turning the wheels sharp while trying to accelerate).....shifting into every other gear it does perfectly fine.

Couple other things..you using the correct yoke? Is the drive shaft the correct length? What kind of shape is the tailshaft bushings in? If it is worn, it'll let the yoke run untrue.

it has the correct yoke, orderd it specificly for the T5 trans swap conversion.....the driveshaft i measured and with full weight on the axle i have about 1/2 inch of free play so the driveshaft is correct length as well......u-joints are also all in good condition, only about 900 easy miles on them.

ok, im gonna go ahead and pull the clutch and check everything out......so theres NO way clutch chatter could be caused by a bad driveline angle? i bought all my conversion stuff from california pony cars like you. do people usually have a problem with their stuff??

also, i didnt use their "new" poly trans mount. i used the rubber one off of my 4speed but it was basicly brand new anyways.

it went in but not smoothly....it went in all the way but had to pretty much force it the last 1/4" or so....i just thought this was because it was a tight fit for the opening of the adapter plate but i could be wrong

going to check out the clutch and see if there are any signs of contamination or anything bad, ill also check out the pilot bearing while im there.

well......got good news and bad news, and idk news.
good news is i got it all out of the car  bad news is im not pleased with how everything looks  the idk news is idk how good these gears are anymore....the dogteeth are cast into the gears so in order to replace the dog teeth i have to replace the gear itself
i got the clutch all off and checked everything out, so that so called "chatter" had to have been coming from the main input bearing on the trans seeing as how its completly shot.
im debating on if i can use this trans without sinking more than $300 into the rebuild ""rebuild kit for syncros and watnot being $200 already"" .......or if i should just junk it and start looking for another trans
ive never rebuilt a trans befor so idk the extent as to if the dogteeth are in good enough condition to use, or if they have to be replaced....if i gotta replace em im junking the transmission, just because of the simple fact i would have so much invested into this trans that i could just bought a complete brand new one
