HAVE PROBLEM WITH DRIVING CAR FOR A WHILE, GETTING BACK INTO IT AND THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OVER TILL ITS COOLED. ALSO BEEN HAVING TO REPLACE STARTER SOLENIOD WAY TO FREQUENT. COULD NOT TURN IGNITION OFF THE OTHER DAY WITH KEY. ANY IDEAS?

Sounds like the solenoid isn't getting enough voltage to close the contact during starting. This would cause the "won't turn over when hot" problem (increased wire resistance) as well as the "could not turn off ignition" problem (intermitten solenoid contact causes welding shut of contacts).

As the engine is cranked, measure the voltage across the small studs on the solenoid. If this drops below, say, 6V, then you might have bad wiring or connections. Tracing back through the wiring, with the help of a good wiring diagram, might expose the problem.

hmmm....
Sounds like separate problems to me...

Maybe Midlife could show you how to bypass the ignition switch and energize the coil and solenoid...

I can show you the car thief way...
Hook wire on positive side of coil; leave long enough to attach to battery or terminal on starter solenoid....
Obtain small screwdriver...

Attach wire to battery positive terminal; short screwdriver across starter solenoind battery post and small stud nearest to it...

That should turn the engine over and it should start...

Midlife can correct me if I've left anything out...*G*

Personally, I think the ignition switch may be going bad...
