As I have posted before I have been looking for a convertible shell to to a complete re-body of my convertible. Mine had some extensive rust work done to it about 5 years ago and now spots are re-appearing. I just bought a 73 6cyl vert that is almost as rust free as one can get in this area. The quandary is I really hate to kill this car and use it for parts. It is a 6 cyl but it has deluxe interior, a full console, power steering and brakes. A restoration on this car would amount to a couple of patches, paint, new door panels and a new top. I,m sure there is some mechanical items that need attention but it isn't that bad. I have been looking for a long time for a decent body (shell) and this is the closest I have been able to get to one.
I know the debate will rage once again about how it is illegal to re-body or how much sheet metal and structure panels can be replaced before it would be a re-body but it won't sway my intent to get a rust free car. What would you do, kill a prime candidate for restoration or continue to wait and hope something else pops up someday? The someday I have been waiting for is here and took 2 years to arrive.... ::
