I have a 66 mustang. I have been slowly working on it throughout the year. I finally got it to where i would feel safe in driving it more the ten miles from the house. I took it down today to get new tires . Everything thing was working on my first leg of trip. Got tires installed and was heading home when i noticed my turn signal indicator light was not working. The lights were not working either. It was working on my way to the tire shop. I checked out fuses and all look good. I wiggled the turn signal lever and stlll no go. I replaced the turn signal flasher with a new one. No difference. I have power to flasher connection. I checked new flasher independently and it works. When i checked the old flasher out it will blink on occasion but not continuously. All my other lstuff works like it should. When i turn on parking light they light up, so bulbs are not bad. Here is the question. Is a new 12 volt flasher compatiable with the 66 mustang. Do f need a special flasher specifically for the mustang. What am i missing. Sorry for being long winded but i wanted to explain correctly. Thanks

If you didn’t put in LED 1157’s or any other kind of LED’s you don’t need the special digital flasher. I had to do those when I put in rear LED tail lamp panels. Do they turn on solid but not flash when you signal? Or nothing at all? If it’s only your turn signals you may have a bad turn signal switch in your steering column.
But there are two flasher boxes. One for the Hazards (if your car has them?? I know my 68’ does) and one for turn signals themselves. After those things it can always be wiring (hot or ground). There are a bunch of grounds behind the speedo cluster. Try the cheap easy fixes first like flasher box. Check back side of fuse panel box if you can take it loose. This often corrodes sight unseen at the terminals from 50 + years of humidity.
