I have a 66 mustang. I have been slowly working on it throughout the year. I finally got it to where i would feel safe in driving it more the ten miles from the house. I took it down today to get new tires . Everything thing was working on my first leg of trip. Got tires installed and was heading home when i noticed my turn signal indicator light was not working. The lights were not working either. It was working on my way to the tire shop. I checked out fuses and all look good. I wiggled the turn signal lever and stlll no go. I replaced the turn signal flasher with a new one. No difference. I have power to flasher connection. I checked new flasher independently and it works. When i checked the old flasher out it will blink on occasion but not continuously. All my other lstuff works like it should. When i turn on parking light they light up, so bulbs are not bad. Here is the question. Is a new 12 volt flasher compatiable with the 66 mustang. Do f need a special flasher specifically for the mustang. What am i missing. Sorry for being long winded but i wanted to explain correctly. Thanks

I did some further testing and found my horn, my turn signals and my blower motor are the only things that do not work. Headlights,,taillights, running lights, radio, instrument gauges and courtsey lights all work. I checked the fuses, i took fuse box off and inspected, checked wires under the dash and hood and found nothing.wrong. Checked all grounds and they were clean and tight. I am at a complete lost to what problem could be. I guess i will take off horn assembly and steering wheel and check the wiring. Anybody got any ideas. thanks

Bump

Okay.....
Horn - Receives its power through the headlight switch "A" (brake light feed) terminal.
Turn signals - Receives power via the ignition switch "A" (accessory) terminal.
Blower motor - Receives power through the fuse box from the ignition switch "A" (accessory) terminal.

The horn has nothing in common with the turn signals and/or blower motor other than the fact that power comes from the battery through the firewall plugs.

Since the taillights, brake lights and instrument lights work, the headlight switch is NOT the problem with the horn. I'd first test the horns directly by jumpering power from the battery+ to the horn terminals. If they blow, I'd pull the steering wheel and check for power at the horn contact pins and if one has juice then jumper them together to see if the horn blows.

Next thing I'd do is check for power (with the key in the "ACCY" or "ON" position, on the BROWN wire to the heater/blower motor. If you have power there, check for power at the heater/blower motor resistor in the heater box. With the yellow wire connected and the "multi-wire plug" disconnected, you should have power at each of the 3 terminals. If you're using a test light, it should be bright at one and successively dimmer at the other 2.

You indicated you had power at the flasher. While you have the steering wheel off checking the horns I'd check the BLUE wire to the turn signal switch for power. If present, jumper the BLUE wire to the WHITE/BLU and then to the GRN/WHI wires to see if the corresponding sides flash.

ok i tested the horns directly to battery. they blow fine. I then followed the plugs to the heater/blower and found it had become disconnected by chance when the other stuff quit working. It works now. I took the horn ring off and jumped contact on horn and there is power there. I tried to get horn to blow by grounding out contact on horn and all i get is sparks and no horn sound. I checked all wires coming out of bottom of steering column for bad contact or charred wire. Everything seems to be ok. My next step is checking blue wire for power nad jumping the wires. If that solves nothing i am taking steering wheel off next. thanks for your help.

I dont know where this wire chasing is leading but here is latest. I have power to horn but going from connection to connection did nothing. I rechecked wires coming out of steering wheel column and all wires look good. Took the plug apart below the column and i only have power to the yellow wire. I rechecked power to flasher leads. I have two wires a blue and a orange. The blue has no power at all and the orange has power when the ignition is turned to on position. I was hoping to find problem before i had to take steering wheel off because ii have no wheel puller. I will pick one up at Auto Zone.

i have steering wheel off. The wires look good and the turn signal switch looks new. where do i go from here . do i take off steering column to really look at wires. How do i know if turn signal switch is bad. how do i change turn signal switch if necessary. Today i discovered there is power to both wires on the flasher but taking the two main plugs apart lying above steering column there is no power. Confusing to me but i will get it figured out.
