Hi all, I'm currently in the process of getting my '68 back on the road (will post a build thread soon). I'm finishing up in the engine compartment and am installing reinforcement straps to the shock towers.
Is anyone running similar reinforcement plates with the stock-style control arms? I made the reinforcement out of 1/8" and do not have enough thread protrusion if I include a lock washer. I looked around the forums, but can't seem to find if there are longer splined studs available.
If I can't find longer studs, I'm debating a couple options:
1. Stock length studs, no lock washer, grade 8 flanged nuts & loctite.
2. Remove the stock studs and replace with a longer grade 8 shouldered bolt - tack weld the bolt to the shaft.
3. Stock length studs, no lock washer, with distorted thread locknuts.
In all situations i'd use a paint pen once torqued to spec, and recheck periodically.
Does anyone run a similar setup on theirs? I'm definitely paranoid about the safety of these and don't want to end up loosing a control arm on the highway.
