Using a derale fan and haydon clutch - seems the fan is too far away

I bought a Derale Fan 17117 and a Haydon clutch 2710 that was recommended - but it seems that the fan is about 3" inches from the radiator? This seems too far to work properly? This is going on a 347 new build. See photo.
Any advice? Thanks - Dean

I'm surprised the bolt pattern is the same.

I have a small block (didn't pay attention to your application but looks like one) but I like using the factory style bolts that have the captive locknut to bolt the fan on. Here's a snip from the NPD website for a few different years. You can use regular short bolts (and I bolt the fan on before I put it in the car, usually). It's just easier if I have to replace it, you don't drop the washer while fiddling with everything.

My clutch fan blades are about 3 inches from the radiator with no shroud. Cools just fine in my 1964.5 Mustang w/a modified 350 horse 289.
Guess I could use a spacer to get a bit closer, but I don't have a need to do so.
From your pic, I can't tell how far your fan blades are from the radiator. If it cools OK, i wouldn't worry about it. 😎
