Hey guys,
I plan on buying this 69 mach 1 390 4sp (not original block, but original crank, etc - piston went through block) - what price would you guys put on it? Apparently no rust (except door corners)...always a CA car (though spent time in NM). Original interior... has the radio and console (just not in car). Clock is missing. Built the transmission, rear-end, motor, so mechanically it should be great. AC isn't hooked up apparently and will need to be serviced.

I'm flying out to see and take the car home in a couple weeks...just wanting to know if I should back out now...

I really appreciate you help guys.

I've seen really nice Mach 1's (nice drivers) around here for that kind of money that need next to nothing. They weren't 390's, but I think you can get more car for what they are asking. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

I have a good friend of mine in Alabama that told me two days ago he's going to sell his 1969 Mach1 390, 4spd, factory original (and nice). All original numbers etc., needs nothing, (and did I say nice), and he said he expects to sell at around 20.

I have a 69 Mach 1 390 S-code. Same color as the one in the picture. Its an automatic car with no options. Its rust free except for the battery apron. Low mileage car and runs good. Engine has never been opened up. I paid $10k for it but I know the history on it and its 95% rust free. You want rust free as much as possible even if you have to pay for it. I personally believe the guys wanting way too much for it. But it looks to be in good shape with lots of options thou. You can get a 428 that needs work for what hes wanting for less. The 390 cars are the rarest of the 69 models but they only bring a couple thousand more than your M-codes. IMO if your looking for a Mach 1 either buy one thats rust free and needs total restoration at the best price you can get or buy one fully restored turn key. Dont get a in-between car. Youll end up having more money in it then what its worth and there usually just re-skinned pigs....

$25K is way too much for that car in it's current shape. $10K to $12K is more like it. The 390 is the rarest of the 69 engines as cobra460jet stated but rarity doesn't always translate into the most desirable or valuable. It was rare because most people wanting a big block in 69 opted for the 428 CJ/SCJ engine. It's still a very desirable car for the right price.

I spent along time looking for my 69 Sportsroof and looked at alot of cars. I follow the classified adds alot. I think he could get 18k on his best day, maybee 17k. Realistically though he should expect around 14-15k if it is solid underneath the beast. I think 25k is way out of line. If you are patient you will find the right car for a great price. Keep shopping.
FYI
To buy the correct radio (1200.00), to repaint the car (alot)!

I agree that $25k is out of line, but I'll buy them all day if you can find cars like that for $14k.

25k yes out of line , it needs a bunch of wortk and a good paint job. Mine is totaly done and it's been appraised at $35,000. I can imagine that one being even close to the amount wanted. Heck a good paint job runs 5-8 thousand depending on work required.
